After worship, head over to the Fireside Room, or Zoom, for a conversation with Dr. Bob Coote:
For three Sundays in February, the Sunday Forum will host a brief presentation entitled The Bible: Capsule Basics led by Dr. Bob Coote. The discussion is on the Pentateuch, how the first five books of the bible, took shape: Who wrote it, and why? He will give us a glimpse of how the Old Testament influenced, or was utilized, by the New Testament writers.

February 2: Highpoints (critical nodes) of the 1500-year history behind the Bible, from Israel’s origin to Jesus’s cult. What’s in the Bible: Torah, Prophets, Writings (the rest). How the New Testament got into the Bible.
February 9: What’s in the Torah: its ingredients (“sources”), the narrative amalgam. Why Moses?
February 16: What’s the Old Testament for? The Bible in the New Testament.
Dr. Bob Coote is the Nathaniel Gray Professor of Hebrew Exegesis and Old Testament at San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union. He has written over a dozen books. His current investigations include “Third” Isaiah (56–66) and the use of the Hebrew scriptures in the Gospel of Mark.
