At St. John’s, children and youth begin worship in the Sanctuary and participate in the ‘Simple Gospel’ on those Sundays it is offered. The children and youth are usually in the Sanctuary until about 10:20 a.m., when their teachers invite them to leave for their own programs.
Through a variety of Sunday School resources such as Godly Play, the children learn about God through storytelling, play, wondering and imagination. In the activities planned for them, the children are invited to express their faith in God in words, questions, writing, working with clay, drawing, painting and movement.
The St. John’s Youth Ministry program seeks to nurture growth through encouraging these young people to become comfortable reading and discussing the Bible, applying the Bible to their lives, getting to know each other, providing leadership in worship, discussing issues at a deeper level, engaging in prayer and creating opportunities to grow in leadership both at St. John’s and in the larger community.
Throughout the year, children and youth also have the opportunity to grow through their participation in other church activities such as the Christmas pageant, community service events, Easter Egg Hunt, Camp Elmwood and more.
